dante’s divine comedy is one of the most important works of medieval literature. you may not have read it but you’ve been influenced by it somehow.
by merging christian and pagan concepts and talking about the afterlife unpretentiously filling some gaps in the bible and holding hands with the greek philosophers while also using a breakthrough language for that time, it opened the doors for the renaissance with the development of humanism and the italian language.
for the last couple of weeks, i’ve been building a love-and-hate relationship with this work. love, because all it represents and the amazing story that leaves us with a lot to think about at every stanza; hate, because for my style taste as a writer and a reader. i’d love to read that story in a different form.
until a few minutes before i started writing this post, i didn’t know someone would have translated the work that way to help me. i’ll talk about that in a few.
